Dorinda Clark Cole's fourth solo album, I Survived (August 30, 2011, Light Records), may be one of her best to date. A cohesive blend of traditional and contemporary styles, this project demonstrates the versatility for which Dorinda, one of gospel's famed Clark Sisters, has become known. But it is more confident and settled than some of her more experimental routes in previous projects.

Each of the 11 tracks on I Survived are foundationally traditional, but modernly accentuated by her jazzy style and flair. With standouts like the rousing album opener, "Holy One," "We Believe," and the project's newest single, "He Brought Me," Dorinda Clark Cole finesses each tune with her signature raspy tone and an unshakeable conviction.

Featuring masterful production from musical craftsmen Asaph "Alex" Ward and Warryn Campbell, I Survived highlights the best in Dorinda Clark Cole and reminds us of a music career spanning multiple decades; one that remains relevant today.
