Jason Nelson releases his highly anticipated major label debut, Shifting the Atmosphere, to a gospel community full of eager supporters. And with it, he demonstrates that the music was worth the wait.

Shifting the Atmosphere is the 12-track culmination of a live recording event at Greater Bethlehem Temple, the Baltimore-area church he pastors. Nelson’s signature gravely voice is reminiscent of crooners of the good ol’ days in music, when people’s voices were so remarkable that no tricks were needed. The bonus for us – Nelson’s vocal agility and musical ear gives him the ability to execute just about every riff in the book, and then some.

Standout songs on the album include the title track and top-ten radio hit, “Shifting the Atmosphere,” the worshipful duet “No Words,” which features popular worshipper Leon Timbo, and “Don’t Count Me Out,” written by Nelson and previously recorded by Marvin Sapp. The church-ready and rousing tune “Power In His Name” is another favorite, and don’t miss the declaratory anthem “Dominion,” which will certainly carve a space in the landscape of this year’s gospel hits.

With backing from gospel greats like Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary and Donald Lawrence, Nelson has been a more underground favorite for years. With Shifting the Atmosphere, he steps solidly into the foreground as one of the leading male vocalists of the next generation in gospel music.
