James Fortune & FIYA On Deck for GMC'S Listen Up! Artist Spotlight
ATLANTA (Feb. 26, 2009) – James Fortune & FIYA are being highlighted in LISTEN UP, Gospel Music Channel's multiplatform promotional campaign for new and up-and-coming artists.
Fortune, former church drummer and "Preacher's Kid," formed the group Youth for Christ in 1998. In late 2000, Fortune changed the name of the group to FIYA ("Free In Yahweh's Abundance.") This Houston based Urban Contemporary group has taken the gospel music industry by storm. Their 2004 debut CD "You Survived" was immediately successful.The title track's first single topped the charts as Gospel radio's second most played song in the country and has held fast in the Top 7 for the past three years. The single garnered Fortune a coveted ASCAP Writers Award in 2006.
The group earned a 2009 Stellar Award nomination for Contemporary Choir of the Year.Their latest project The Transformation has tremendous crossover potential. The single "I Trust You" has dominated Gospel radio for 22 weeks at the #1 spot. "I Trust You" is also #30 on Urban AC charts and #1 at WBLS in New York City, Urban AC's #1 station in the U.S.
