Denise Boutté
Biography
A native of the Louisiana village of Maurice, this small-town farm girl turned valedictorian originally dreamed of becoming a doctor. It was not until after graduating from Louisiana State University that Denise Boutté’s creative interests began to take hold. With a degree in mass communications, Boutté entered into to the world of advertising and quickly climbed the ranks and became a top-notch account director. While overseeing the production of her client’s print and commercial campaigns, a hesitant Boutté was constantly asked to be a participant and soon found herself in front of the lens for a variety of national print and commercial campaigns. After acting “discovered her,” it was not long before Boutté’s creative intuition led her to take a leap of faith, head west and become a fulltime actress. Stunningly beautiful, down to earth and downright hilarious actress, Boutté has quickly risen to become one of the most sought after actresses of her generation. With countless television and film appearances, Boutté stars on Tyler Perry’s award-winning TBS series, Meet the Browns (Wednesdays; 9:00PM). Currently the #1 show on TBS, Boutté stars as “Sasha Brown,” the compassionate yet quirky nurse who constantly struggles to find that “holy grail” of balance between career and family. Working daily with what has become an extended family has allowed Boutté to discover and develop her natural comedic ability, creating characters with whom the audience associates and sympathizes. With no end in sight to the show’s success, Boutté has not only made her mark on sitcom history but continues to evolve as a top tier performer.
Wasting no time, Boutté emerged as one of Hollywood’s busiest new faces. Less than two years after making her move to Hollywood, Boutté found herself auditioning for an “untitled” Tyler Perry project. Oblivious to his presence in the audition room until the call-back, Boutté was presented the role on the spot. Since then, Boutté has joined the elite as a small screen ratings sensation highlighted by guest and recurring roles on numerous popular TV shows, including Boston Legal, Everybody Hates Chris, Girlfriends, Notes from the Underbelly, Cuts, Noah’s Arc and an unforgettable recurring arc as “Danielle Calder” on Days of Our Lives.
With her success snowballing and picking up speed, Boutté was approached once again by the entertainment pioneer, Tyler Perry to star in the hit film Why Did I Get Married? Co-starring as the woman people love to hate and undercover seductress “Trina” alongside Janet Jackson, Jill Scott and Richard T. Jones, the film grossed over $21 million opening weekend. Other big screen roles include the comedy spoof Extreme Movie, Sister’s Keeper, NOLA, Way of the Vampire, Damon Wayans’ Behind the Smile, and 15 Minutes of Fame.
While juggling her busy schedule, Boutté commutes between Atlanta and Los Angeles and is looking forward to her lead role in a much anticipated romantic comedy this summer. In her limited spare time she enjoys lending her voice to the “Greater than AIDS” campaign, cooking her favorite southern cuisine, entertaining, motivational speaking for several hometown causes, collecting recipes and roller blading.
