Biography
Kellita Smith’s acting career spans close to two decades in theater, television and film. She’s most recently recognized as Wanda Mac on the hit Fox Television series “The Bernie Mac Show,” where she’s earned three NAACP Image Award nominations for Best Actress in a comedy series. In addition, the show has garnered several awards and nominations, including an Emmy, Peabody Award, and a twice recipient of both the Golden Satelite Award, and the Humanitis Award. A celebrity in her own right, Kellita is well known for her endless television credits. She’s also had several recurring roles on networks like CBS, FOX, and Warner Bros. She has lent her talents to the film industry as well, working with such names as Jack Nicholson, Sean Penn, Whoopi Goldberg, Malcolm Lee, Jeff Byrd, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and GianCarlo Exposito. Production companies include Miramax, New Line, Searchlight, and Foxx 2000. It doesn’t stop there. The theater community has affectionately coined her “Special K” where she’s received prestigious awards for her many accomplishments in that realm. After extensive training and working successfully in Los Angeles, the fruit of Kellita’s labor is paying off. If you’ve been watching, one could see the arrival of her star rising to its own place. Anonymous philanthropy also happens to be a passion of Kellita’s. She’s responsible for numerous anonymous donations as well as charities that are close to her heart like “Women of Essence”. “I was introduced to the Women of Essence 7 years ago when I hosted their annual Mother’s Day luncheon, and was so impressed with the courage, dignity, and spirit of these extraordinary women, I knew I had to do something to help.” Kellita produced an evening of entertainment, enlisting fellow actors to perform brave and amazing stories, written for stage, that were actual experiences of these breast cancer survivors from the Women of Essence. The fundraiser was very successful raising thousands of dollars. This busy woman even writes for an all female magazine called “Girlfriends”. She has a column on health and spiritual concerns. With Tae Kwon Do, boxing, fencing, and dance training among her hobbies, Kellita’s dream of making a mark in the action film genre is also on the horizon. With her own production company Strange Fruit Inc., she plans on developing impactful as well as meaningful vehicles for herself and other talented artists.
