Leeland "The Great Awakening"
The lyrics to this upbeat title track are taken verbatim from an anonymous poem about spiritual revival that Jack Mooring found in a historical volume called The Patriot’s Handbook. Especially moved by the line "three awake can arouse the town and turn the whole place upside down," he shared the words with his brother Leeland, who put them to a bright melody right there on the spot.
"We didn‘t want to stop singing it. That's when you know it‘s good," Leeland recalls. "But then we hit the studio months later with about 30 song ideas and completely forgot about this one! We rediscovered it at the last minute, and it became the glue that made the others songs stick together and make sense. It lines everything up."
