gmc Green-Lights Its First Real-Life Reality Series, "Engagement Story"
First-of-its-Genre TV Show from Big Fish Entertainment Watches as Men Plan Surprising, Romantic Ways to Propose
ATLANTA, GA, Nov. 3, 2011-- GMC, America’s favorite channel for uplifting, faith-friendly family entertainment, announced today that it has green-lit a new series from Big Fish Entertainment called “Engagement Story,” the first-ever TV reality show centering on real-life marriage proposals.
“Engagement Story,” GMC’s first real-life reality series, will be a half-hour, heart-warming show that follows men who are planning surprising, yet romantic ways to propose and then watches as each secret plan unfolds and they pop the question. The series will feature “everyday” men as well as the occasional celebrity as they plan and execute what will be the biggest moment of their lives. GMC’s brand of uplifting inspirational music will be infused throughout every episode. “Engagement Story” will shoot on location around the United States and premiere on GMC in early 2012.
In addition to the on-air series, GMC also will launch an online engagement destination featuring a celebrity hosted version of “Engagement Story” that will enable people to share their stories through video and social media. The online site also will launch in early 2012.
Brad Siegel, vice chairman, GMC, said, “’Engagement Story’ is an ideal fit with our uplifting, family entertainment brand because engagements celebrate the very beginning of a family. It is a time of hope and optimism, romance and love. A marriage proposal can easily be the biggest decision, and most elaborately planned event in a man’s life. And, GMC viewers can expect their favorite music artists to help the men add a bit of song to their proposal.”
“We are very excited to be working with GMC on ‘Engagement Story,’” said Doug DePriest, executive producer and president, Big Fish Entertainment. “When a man proposes marriage, it is such an emotional and heartfelt moment. We believe the series will deliver the GMC audience a great thrill for all of the right reasons.”
While marriage proposals may happen hundreds of times each day across the country, for most men, popping the question is one of the most dramatic events in their lives. The stakes are high. Taking center stage for one shining, vulnerable moment, every man wants to sweep his princess off her feet and create the romantic memory of a lifetime. The pressure is intense. “Engagement Story” will capture the heart, the hope and the fear leading up to this remarkable moment when, on bended knee, a man asks the simple question, “Will you marry me?” and waits. By showcasing real surprise proposals, the series will capture the spontaneous drama, humor and raw emotion of this life-changing event.
“With nearly 2.5 million people getting engaged each year, the stories, characters and drama surrounding engagements are endless,” said Leslie Chesloff, executive vice president programming, GMC. “Unlike weddings, which often involve family ‘politics’ and other outside influences, the marriage proposal remains a pure reflection of a couple’s personalities and love for each other. “Engagement Story” will present a diverse sampling of some of these great stories, and the online companion site will become an attractive destination for the thousands of heartwarming, uplifting stories that can’t make it to air.”
