GRAMMY-nominated DecembeRadio has been working with Compassion International for about three years. Band members traveled as a group to Guatamala last summer to visit with their sponsored child, Edgar, where they enjoyed spending a day at the zoo and eating Pizza Hut with him.

"It is important for us as a band to constantly be reminded that it is not about us or what we are doing," says guitarist Eric Miker, pictured above with Edgar.

Frontman Josh Reedy adds that he appreciates Compassion specifically for the organization's commitment to bringing the Gospel message to the people it serves.

"[It's] just an incredible ministry with awesome passion for kids all over the world who are struggling with poverty, lack of food, water, education, and most importantly, the love of Jesus," says Reedy. "Compassion's going in there and sharing that with these kids. They're lifting them up and allowing them to have a way to make a better life for themselves and to impact others in their communities, building these communities up for Jesus."

Founded in 1952, Compassion is the world's largest Christian child development organization that permanently releases children from poverty, serving more than one million children in 26 of the world's poorest countries. Recognizing that poverty is more than a lack of money, Compassion works through local churches to holistically address the individual physical, economic, educational and spiritual needs of children.

"Since we have returned from Guatemala, the images of the needy there have stayed with me and have continued to encourage my wife and me as we continue our sponsorship for our child, and also to try to get as many other people as possible to sponsor a child," says Miker. "I can't wait to go back next summer!"

Compassion has been awarded eight consecutive, four-star ratings by Charity Navigator, America's largest charity evaluator.
