Initial Slate of Affiliate Events Announced; Bus to be Stationed on Show Floor

ATLANTA, June 14, 2011 -- gmc, America’s favorite channel for uplifting music and family entertainment, announced today that it will roll out its biggest-ever pro-social initiative, UPLIFT SOMEONE, to affiliates and consumers with a national bus tour starting at NCTA’s annual Cable Show in Chicago from June 14-16.

The UPLIFT SOMEONE America Tour will partner and co-brand with affiliates from coast-to-coast, making stops at popular local events and places. During The Cable Show, the bus will occupy a prominent spot on the convention floor at booth 273. gmc will hold affiliate meetings on the bus at the show, giving attendees a first-hand feel for the UPLIFT SOMEONE initiative.

Confirmed affiliate-partnered events to date include:

-June 18: Comcast Detroit - Music & Mastery Holistic Festival & India.Arie Concert

-June 24: Charter Cable, Fort Worth, Texas - Charter Employee and customer service event

-June 25: Time Warner, Dallas - Celebrate Freedom Music Festival

-July 31: Time Warner, Northeast Region - Kingdom Bound Music Festival

-Aug. 13: Comcast Atlanta - Stone Mountain Laser Show and Family Concert Event

Many additional events are in the process of being finalized.

The campaign’s premise is to extend gmc’s “uplifting entertainment” brand by reminding and inspiring people how easy it is to carry out simple acts that are kind and positive to others, and which make our world a better place. Uplifting acts that could be shared and acknowledged by gmc ambassadors and the public include simple acts such as: When playing with your child, be sure to put down the Smartphone and be in the moment; take a grandparent shopping; call someone you’ve been meaning to connect with; offer to babysit for a friend who needs a date night; let someone merge in traffic, etc.

The UPLIFT SOMEONE America tour bus will travel with a stage for live uplifting performances, and will feature a kid zone where children can create certificates “redeemable” for uplifting acts. Consumers will have the opportunity to tape testimonials about uplifting acts they have done or witnessed, and those testimonials can then be accessed via the tour microsite. Local “uplifters” from the community also will be recognized.

Video from all local events can be seen at www.watchgmctv.com/uplift. Visitors to the site can track the bus tour, find out who is involved in their community and share their own uplifting acts.

The campaign is also featured on gmc’s air with testimonials on simple or extraordinary uplifting moments that have inspired people. Among those appearing in the testimonials are Drew Lachey, host of gmc’s new original series “America Sings;” Kevin Sorbo, Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin, Ruben Studdard, Leigh Anne Tuohy (“The Blind Side”) and LeCrae.

An additional element of the campaign is the sale of UPLIFT SOMEONE wristbands to benefit gospel star Stephen Curtis Chapman’s Show Hope (www.ShowHope.org), a nonprofit organization created to meet the pressing needs of orphans. Chapman was the recipient of the gmc UPLIFT SOMEONE Award at the 2011 GMA Dove Awards, which recognizes artists who have encouraged people across the nation by inspiring acts of positivity and kindness.

“Our hope is that gmc’s UPLIFT SOMEONE will turn into a movement that will engage people and show how easy it can be to make the world a better place by inspiring everyday acts of kindness among family, friends, neighbors and just folks that you encounter on a daily basis,” said Wendy McCoy, vice president, marketing, gmc.

The UPLIFT SOMEONE bus made its debut in New York in April as the setting for 30 separate upfront meetings with advertisers and agencies. More than 400 advertising executives attended the unique sessions, which included after-hours karaoke nights and a trip to the Hudson River Boat Basin for an outdoor lunch. The bus made its final New York appearance at gmc’s upfront party at BB King’s in Times Square on April 28.
