gmc Unveils Slate of Upcoming Original Movies, Gospel Stage Productions and Series
ATLANTA, June 14, 2011 — gmc, America’s favorite channel for uplifting music and family entertainment, today announced the implementation of its strategy to air a gmc World Premiere Movie every month with the unveiling of its upcoming slate for the remainder of 2011. The network also announced other upcoming elements of its gmc World Premiere Programming initiative, including three new gospel stage productions and a new series.
Upcoming gmc World Premiere Movies are:
Trinity Goodheart (airing in August): When Trinity Goodheart, 12, is visited by an angel with a pendant belonging to her long-lost mother, Trinity concludes that her mother is in danger and needs her help. Stars Eric Benet, Erica Gluck and James Hong.
A Mile in His Shoes (September): A heartwarming story in which a sheltered farm boy with Asperger’s Syndrome and a killer fastball is recruited to play for a minor league team. Stars Dean Cain and Luke Schroder.
Decision (October): Ilene Connors and her son Jackson are struggling to get by both emotionally and financially after the death of her husband Steve. Jackson goes to live with his grandfather for the summer where he struggles to adjust, but the two begin to bond. When they take a hunting day-trip, an accident will test their survival skills and their faith. Stars multiple Dove Award-winning singer Natalie Grant, Billy Dean, Jeremy Jones and Michael Rosenbaum.
5th Quarter (November): The inspirational true story of Jon Abbate who, driven by the tragic and fatal car crash that took the life of his 15 year-old brother Luke, wears Luke's number 5 jersey and helps to lead the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to the most successful football season in school history. Stars Andie MacDowell, Aidan Quinn, Ryan Merriman and Anessa Ramsey.
One Last Christmas (December): A film inspired by the true story of Dax Locke, a terminally ill child with a rare form of leukemia. Determined that Dax celebrate one last Christmas the community of thousands came together and made that happen. This story inspired Matthew West to write the hit song “One Last Christmas."
In addition to its gmc World Premiere Movie slate, the network announced that it will produce three new gmc World Premiere Gospel Plays this year. The next title will be the June premiere of She’s Not Our Sister, the story of three sisters dealing with their father’s death and a Pandora’s Box of family issues that begin to surface. Additional original productions of powerful gospel plays will air in September and December.
The World Premiere Series, America Sings, will premiere June 22. This series will showcase the vast variety of vocal talents found in singing groups across America. The groups invited to participate in the series will be diverse and include all-male, all-female and children’s groups, as well as groups representing colleges and universities, community centers, churches and the military. Twelve groups will be featured on each episode. Dancing With the Stars winner and singer Drew Lachey will host.
In December, gmc will air a Christmas music special starring the family band that goes by the name “Forever Jones,” emerging superstars in gospel music who won two Stellar Awards and earned a Grammy nomination.
“Viewers have responded enthusiastically to our uplifting, family values programming slate, and the best way for us to ensure that new content continues to fill the pipeline so we can meet demand is to create it ourselves,” said Brad Siegel, vice chairman, gmc. “This year marks a watershed for gmc as we have significantly ramped up our original programming investment, and in 2012 we will ratchet it up even further.
