About Show

(Drama) Stars: Don Cheadle, Cicely Tyson, Mekhi Phifer, Irma P. Hall. In the 1940s South, an African-American man is wrongly accused of killing a white store owner. In his defense, his incompetent white attorney defends him by stripping his humanity. Even though he is sentenced to die, his godmother persuades the local school teacher, who wants nothing more than to escape the small town he has been stuck in, to visit him in prison. Through unconventional methods the teacher reaffirms the prisoners humanity and dignity while transforming his own life and purpose and the lives of all who know him.
