Mars Needs Moms

Released: 2011
Genre: Animated

The Contender: Mars Needs Moms

Release Date: March 4, 2011

Rating: PG

Starring: The voices of Seth Green, Joan Cusack, Mindy Sterling and Tom Everett Scott

The One-Two Punch: In case you’ve been missing kids’ movies with a sci-fi spin, Mars Needs Moms has plenty of extra-terrestrials, not to mention a plot that’s (pun intended) out of this world.

The Premise: When Milo’s mom is taken to space by a group of very persistent Martians, he finally begins to appreciate her – and all those annoying ways she’s always trying to make his life better.

The Verdict: Joan Cusack and Seth Green are a kick in terms of vocal talent, but this story of alien abduction and the value of family definitely has a been-there, done-that feel to it. Plus, a story targeted for the younger set shouldn’t be this serious. It needs far more laughs to even things out.
